Fun Food Facts

You love your food...well so do I. And I love some of it so much that I actually decided to find out more about it (like we all do, for the object of our affection!) A lot of fun, interesting facts came up. Read on...

Nutella: Talk tasty & you have to talk Nutella. So its no surprise that a jar of Nutella is sold every 2.5 seconds. Need we put into perspective here that a baby is born on this planet every 8 seconds! All thanks to Michele Ferrero, an Italian pastry baker who created Nutella – adding hazelnuts to chocolate to combat post WWII shortages & rationing on chocolate. And did we mention that the European & American version of this iconic spread do not have exactly all the same to same ingredients. American Nutella uses palm oil while the European Nutella does not, and has a more chocolaty & nutty taste and is perhaps a wee bit healthier than its American counterpart!

Lay's potato chips: Yes, I know no one can eat just one! Nor can I...in fact far from it! Now here is the fun stuff. Have you ever tried asking for Lay's potato chips in England. Don't bother, you wont find them...unless of course you ask for Walkers as they are sold under that name in England. There is more coming...they carry the name Chipsys in Ireland, Tacochips in Israel & Elma Chips in Brazil. Lay's potato chips...no one can eat just one & everywhere in the world, you will find one! (Just make sure you get the name right).

Jack Daniels: Jack started his training lessons about the manufacturing & selling of bourbon  shortly after 6 years of age. If that was not enough, it was technically by the age of 13 that Jack was handed over the business officially by his mentor Dan Call, who was made to choose by his wife, between being a town minister or the alcohol business. Choosing ministry over bourbon, he handed the business over to Jack who set up the manufacturing unit and took the business to a different level. By the way...what's the legal age for drinking?...just asking!

Ketchup: Yes, I know most of you love them...I'm not too big a fan. However, here is the feed. The good ol' tomato ketchup was not always a tomato ketchup. In fact, principally ketchup was never about tomatoes. And wonder of wonders, ketchup originally is not even American! It's Chinese. In the era gone by, and the time before that Chinese soldiers used ketchup – made out of a particular type of fish & it's various organs. The popularity of the taste grew and the Europeans loved it so much that they endlessly tried to make their versions, with even Mushroom ketchup coming and & being liked...but not loved. And finally the Americans decided to add the tomatoes and hallelujah! The ketchup was reborn & it was born American this time!

Go ahead, indulge and next time you dig in or take a swig, do remember these little facts and see the fun double!
